Creating a Romantic Bedroom

Whether your bedroom is for one or two, romance is definitely the new trend in decor schemes. Gauzy curtains, lush colors, moody lighting, and soft textures all ramp up the romantic vibes while luxuriant bedding and carefully chosen accessories add the finishing touches.

1. Special lighting

Turn the lights down low or light a few candles as lighting is the key to creating a romantic atmosphere. Make a statement with a chandelier centerpiece, use Moroccan-style pendants for a touch of the exotic, string fairy lights across the headboard, or create a sensual glow with quirky bedside lamps. Whichever type of lighting you choose, make sure it has a dimmer switch!

2. Bold splashes

Color is central to any romantic decor scheme. Paint walls and ceilings inky black to create an intimate space, go bold with high-gloss (or even lacquered) walls in sexy red, or be a little more subtle by using blushing pink tones. Alternatively, add romance to a white or neutral palette by adding bright splashes of color with bedlinen, floor-length curtains, and cushions.

3. The textures of love

There is nothing more romantically sensual than touch. Relax on a velvet daybed, cover a king-sized bed in faux-fur throws, and walk barefoot on sheepskin rugs. Upholster your headboard in soft quilted fabrics or even make a romantic statement with textured wallpaper.

4. The headboard

A headboard can shout romance whether it is in an over-the-top gold-embellished Baroque style straight from Venice or a vintage velvet-quilted piece. The lavish design or plush upholstery all add to the overall sensuality of your boudoir.

5. Create a cocoon for two

There ‘s nothing more romantic than being in a cocoon just made for two. Create the effect by hanging silky curtains across your bedroom to make a private space for your bed. Craft a gauzy canopy to hang over you, or if you have room, think about an old-fashioned four-poster bed. Hang it with luxurious velvet or contemporary semi-sheer drapes.

6. Say it with flowers (and plants)

Create a lush indoor garden with plenty of vibrant green plants and succulents or be really bold and train ivy up and over a bed frame. Dot bouquets of dried flowers and grasses around the room or for a more ethereal look, pop sprays of pampas grass into vases. Complement your floral arrangements with bedding, cushions, and curtains in bold garden prints.
